Rangers bowed out of this season's FA Vase at the 3rd Round stage after extra time following a performance very much of two halves.

The visitors started strongly - Kieran Debrouwer's cross was met by Gary Ricketts who saw his header fly just over the bar.Ricketts was then found by a cross swung in by Greg Marriott but after controlling he mishit his shot and Ricketts then saw his flicked header taken by keeper Danny Bircham.

Man of the Match

The Lions took the lead on eight minutes. A Rangers' attack was cleared from deep, Kieran Wells got the better of Joe Braithwaite before driving forward a few strides and smashing the ball over the advancing Bircham into the net from the corner of the box.

'Buoyed the visitors'

This unsettled Deeping and buoyed the visitors as they proceeded to enjoy domination although Bircham was rarely threatened.

Debrouwer took a pass and, from the corner of box, turned and hit a strong shot that went wide of the post.

Rangers were struggling to get into their game, Jamie Graham was working hard and found Ian Ward who was unable to find his shot against strong defence. Spencer Tinkler then met a Charlie Coulson free kick but his glancing header did not trouble Ian Deakin.

At the other end, Debrouwer's corner fell to Ross Henshaw whose snap effort went to Bircham's hands.

A rare Rangers attack saw Tom Smith combine with Coulson to free Ward down the left but he could not get the better of full back Marriott.

The Lions' Wells collected a pass from Debrouwer to shoot from around the same area he scored from and this time Bircham got his hands to the fierce drive to tip over. Ricketts' pass found Sam Jones in the box but his shot on the turn was saved by Bircham,

'Blast was well blocked'

Ricketts and Jones combined again to free Debrouwer whose blast was well blocked by Braithwaite and Braithwaite again came to the rescue of the home side when Bircham's attempted clearance fell to Ricketts whose half volley was goal bound before Braithwaite blocked.

As half time approached Rangers Coulson tested  the visiting keeper from 30 yards.

Rangers came out for the second half a different side and showed their visitors their abilities and proceeded to have the better of the game.

A Deeping corner was to cleared out to Dan Flack who found Braithwiate down the rights and his cross was just too high for the advancing Tinkler or Coulson.

A good cross from the Lions Marriott was too high for Ricketts and from the clearance Ross Henshaw's drive was blocked by home skipper David Burton-Jones.

'Becoming more dominant'

Rangers were having more of the ball with Coulson becoming more dominant. He combined with Graham to release Flack who sent in a drive that forced Henshaw into a block, Coulson picked up a Lions clearance to shoot just over and Graham drew a full length save from Deakin from a free kick. Coulson then played in Jordan Avis to see his shot taken by Deakin.

Deeping's best chance to level came as Graham got in behind the visiting defence to see Deakin get to the ball just before he could get control.  Flack almost scored from a very oblique angle but the attempt went across the face of goal and the approaching Coulson was unable to get a touch.

Marriott made a good break down the right to cross and Debrouwer's  headed attempt fell to Ricketts whose effort was cleared by Tinkler.

Rangers' Couslon then picked up a loose ball and dribbled into the box to shoot where Deakin was on hand to tip over.

Deeping's pressure finally paid on 88 minutes when a deep cross from Flack was met by Joe Braithwaite who headed home to continue his recent goal scoring form. Full time arrived with the scores still level.

'Home defence unable to clear'

The game was decided in the first minute of extra time, Marriot sent in a cross that Wells got to only to see his header go straight up and when the ball came down he headed back across goal where  Ricketts reacted to head home with the home defence unable to clear. As with the first half, this shook Deeping but this time only for a while.

Ricketts broke down the left to find Marc Strzyzewski who pulled his shot wide of the far post for the Lions.

Rangers responded well, Ben Lewis and Graham combined  to see Lewis fire across the face of the goal. Coulson then jinxed his way into the box to see his shot hit a defender.

The second period saw Rangers pushing for the equaliser, Flack's cross found Lewis to shoot and see his attempt cleared from the goal line by Henshaw.

A break from the Lions saw Debrouwer in behind the Deeping defence to shoot the right side of the post from a home side perspective.

The last chance fell to the home side as Graham flicked on for scorer Braithwaite but this time his effort was the wrong side of the post.

The home fans felt the score was harsh on a developing Rangers team as this season's dream of a Wembley visit was ended but a good dominant second half display was warming on a cold afternoon.
