Stamford boss reflects on first two pre season games

Stamford AFC Club Shop

by John Feetham

ooking back on his side's first two pre season run outs  - defeats against Grimsby Town, 2-3 in the Lincs Senior Cup, and Kings Lynn, 0-3 - Stamford boss Graham Drury reflected:

“For me these first two games have been about getting minutes into players. I used 19 players and it is difficult to work systems and patterns of play. That will come in the later friendlies. At the moment minutes in legs is the main goal.

“I felt the performance was good against Grimsby but wasn’t so good on Saturday. I set up the side on Saturday to answer a few questions and I learned a lot. It was heartbreaking to lose so late on Tuesday, I had started to write down my five penalty takers.”

Stamford host Boston United on Tuesday night and Drury has indicated that there will be a squad of 19 used for that one.

Of squad news, Hayden Goddard has joined Belper and midfielder Rogan McGeorge has been released.

“It was a really tough decision to release Rogan,” continued Drury. “He is a great character and a great footballer. One of the best I have worked with. He is still struggling with his knee injury. He gave everything when he came to the club in a difficult spell last season.

“It was a tough decision to make but we do have plenty of options in midfield.”
