Oakham United manager Wayne Oldaker feels that his side need to be more selfish in front of goal after they slipped to a fifth straight Peterborough and District League, Premier Division defeat.

Wayne explained: “We absolutely dominated possession again but we were looking to score the perfect goal and walk it in the net. No-one was prepared to take a shot on. That was the difference between the teams. They weren’t afraid to have a crack. I don’t think we tested their ‘keeper once first half.”

'Great passing move'

Oakham slumped to 3-0 down at half time. Leverington’s first came from a long throw which Oakham failed to attack, the ball striking a Levy player on the back and flying into the net. The second was a good turn and finish into the top corner. The third came on the stroke of half time when a long goalkick following an Oakham corner saw their striker race clear and finish.”

At half time Oldaker urged his side to take shots on and, early in the half, Danny Barker squeezed an effort in at the near post. The lead was cut further when Ashley Clipston hit home from the edge of the box after a great passing move.

Oakham pushed for an equaliser but Leverington hit a fourth late on.

“Second half was better.  We were more direct and were taking shots on,” concluded Wayne.

Oakham travel to face Parson Drove this Saturday.
