Fourth annual football awards are a major success
SRSN’S fourth annual football awards proved to be a roaring success with close on 200 people squeezing into the function room at Stamford AFC.
Football ambassador, former Scotland International Willie Carr, was our guest of honour and those present were treated to a replay of the famous donkey kick goal - via a youtube video - which he and fellow Coventry City player Ernie Hunt produced.
Stamford Lions were familiar winners on the night, clinching Club of the Year, Manager of the year (James Sheehan) and Footballer of the Year (Luke Ball). Stamford AFC won team of the year for their history making FA Cup exploits.
Uppingham Town’s Richard Kendrick proved a popular winner on the night as he scooped the dedication award for over 40 years of service to the Rutland club.
There was major recognition for Deeping Rangers duo Scott Coupland, who clinched the hotshot award for top goalscorer, and Richard Stainsby, named top goalkeeper. Andy Bates was the first recipient of the inaugural referee’s award. Bourne Town's Steve Bills won Youth Coach of the Year.
Cottesmore Amateurs’ Wilson Iron scooped breakthrough player of the year and Deeping Rangers’ Scott Waumsley was Youth player of the year.
Deeping Under 16s, clinched the youth team of the year prize, while Stamford Junior sides, under 10 reds and Under 14s, took home the two junior team awards.
The charity raffle raised £196 for the Air Ambulance.
SRSN’s John Feetham, who organised and compered a highly successful evening, said: “It was a really fantastic night. I would like to thank all of the sponsors for their support. I would also like to thank everyone who attended, voted and nominated.”
