 Bourne find their shooting boots

Following a frustrating goalless draw on the opening day of the season, Bourne Town Junior Under 13 Girls rediscovered their scoring knack with a 10 goal demolition job away to Cambourne.

Despite making the journey without any available subs, Bourne enjoyed a comfortable victory against a well organised Cambourne side.

It looked to be heading for another frustrating afternoon for the Bourne team though, as they saw a number of early chances go begging and the opposing goal keeper in top form for the second week in a row.

However, with 10 minutes on the clock they finally opened their account for the season, when good build up play fromMatilda Manning and Beth Brown presented Nicole Haynes with a chance to score, although her effort was blocked by the keeper, Esme Thorley was on hand to knock in the rebound with her weaker right foot.

Nicole Haynes was not to be denied for long though, as she fired a quick-fire double to make it 0-3. Firstly, finishing off a fantastic round the corner first time pass from Chloe Kelby after 15 minutes and minutes later tapping in a rebound, following in on her own run and shot that the keeper did well to initially save.

Bourne made it 4-0 inside 20 minutes, when a strong run and cross from Esme Thorley was finished off by Beth Brown

On 23 minutes it was 5, as Chloe Kelby reacted quickly to a clearance from the goal keeper to strike first time from midway inside the Cambourne half to lob the retreating keeper.

Nicole Haynes then made it 6 just before the break, when she poked the ball home from an in swinging Beth Brown corner for her first ever hat-trick for Bourne.

Cambourne were thankful for the half time whistle and came out in the second half looking a lot more organised and finally started to put a bit of pressure on the Bourne defence, but Ellie HallMatilda Manning and Olivia Jedruszak dealt superbly with the few attacks that Cambourne mustered.

On the one occasion they did manage to get a shot on target Lilia Brett was on hand to tip the ball round the post for a corner.

Bourne had a golden opportunity to make it 7 following another fine run down the wing from Esme Thorley and when her cross into the box was deliberately handled from a Cambourne defender. Chloe Kelby stepped up to take the penalty. However, her shot was well saved by the Cambourne keeper.

Bourne did make it 7 midway through the second half, when the hard working Milly Ramm, beat a number of defenders with a fine dribble before setting up Esme Thorley to score her second with a neat left foot strike from a tight angle.

Beth Brown soon made it 8, when she scored her second of the match from a strong run from the halfway line unopposed to beat the keeper.

Milly Ramm then deservedly got on the scoresheet with a well-taken individual goal, picking up the ball outside the area and beating 3 defenders before finishing neatly in off the post.

Olivia Jedruszak nearly scored an early contender for goal of the season, when she single handily beat the majority of the Cambourne team and fired into the bottom corner, only to see the home keeper pull off yet another fine diving save.

Esme Thorley then twice went close to completing her hat-trick when her run and shot was tipped past the post by the keeper. Moments later after breaking through yet again she chipped just wide.

Just before the end, Bourne finally did get into double figures, as from another Esme Thorley run down the wing and cross, Beth Brown was on hand to complete her own hat-trick with a confident finish following a fumble from the keeper.

At the other end the Bourne defence again held firm for their second clean sheet in the first 2 games of the season.
