Easton Title hopes take a dent

Sunday came again meaning it was a day for Easton to enable their push for the Rutland Division 3 west title with an away trip to league leaders Isham.

A win for Easton would certainly leave them in the driving seat going into the last two games but a win was always going to be a major task playing in Isham’s back garden with their superior form.

With Isham winning the toss they elected to bat on a flat and dry wicket so the team talk from stand in captain Alex Wheatley pin pointed the importance of bowling in the right areas and taking catches when they came to ensure maximum bowling points were to be taken.

The innings started superbly with the man of the moment, Asam Ali swinging in a absolute pearler of a yorker to dismiss the opening batsman on his first delivery.

Ali incredibly took all of the top six batsmen's wickets finishing on an Easton career best of 6-56, from his 12 overs. Things however didn't get much better with keeper Andy Bailey having to leave the game early on when he dislocated his finger taking a catch meaning young Harry Green was to Don the gloves for the remainder of the innings. Easton did mange to bowl Isham all out for 205 with Anil Patel (3-26) and George Green (1-1) accounting for the other wickets. Going into the break Easton were positive that Isham's score was gettable on that surface with also the added overs Isham didn't use.

Easton's reply however didn't go the way they planned with the batting magician Mitchell Thomas spooning a delivery right down mid off's throat on the second ball of the innings. With Thomas gone it was now time for someone to step up and make a score and it was adhered by 16 year old hot prospect Harry Green who played sensationally against a good bowling attack on his way to a league best of 53 which kept Easton well In the game at 100-3 from 27 overs but wickets kept falling regularly during the latter stages of the game but Alex Wheatley showed resistance staying at the crease on his way to 45 before being tremendously caught at mid wicket leaving Easton 146-7 with 8 overs left. A tasty cameo from Charlie Mitchell in at 8 with his score of 22 from 18 deliveries managed to get Easton to 173 with 4 overs left with the last two batsmen in but C.Mitchell was caught at long on going for his signature boundary hitting but it was slightly short of clearing the boundary leaving Easton 32 runs below the target.

The loss now puts Isham further ahead at the top but with the spirit Easton possess it won't hinder their desire to keep winning and hopefully results go their way in the last two games with Easton facing S & L Corby this Sunday.
