Ability to grind out results is Ketton strength

Stamford AFC Club Shop

Ketton continue to grind out results as they maintained their 50 point lead at the top of the Cambridgeshire Division One with a five wicket win at Godmanchester.

Hosts Godmanchester opted to bat first on a difficult wicket with favourable overhead conditions, Shakir Mahmood, picking up four of the top six. He finished with 4-30 from eight overs.

After his spell, Iresh Saxena continued with 3-17 from eight overs, Tom Sole taking 1-15, Pete Rowe, 1-31, and Matt Milner, a wicket with his only ball to finish the game as Godmanchester ended on 100 all out.

Ketton were in a spot of trouble, when Rowe was dismissed second ball, but Ashley Rodgers, 18 and Sole, 26, steadied the ship and put on 49. Zeeshan Manzoor, 27 not out, batted his side to the win in 24 overs with five wickets down.

It is their ability to grind out results that skipper Robin Vitas feels is why they are yet to lose with 12 wins, 11 of those achieved by bowling the opposition out.

Said Vitas: “I think because we aren’t rolling teams over and the games have been tight, we aren’t getting complacent.

“Saturday was not a pretty game, it was a tough pitch. We fielded superbly and took our chances, Dusty also chipped in with an excellent stumping. Batting wise, Zeeshan played it sensible and it was a good win.”

He added: “There is still a long long away to go. We have a trip to second place Ramsey on the horizon who keep on winning.”
