Set up in 2012, the Rutland County Netball League continues to go from strength to strength.

Rutland County Netball League

"We have a strong committee who are passionate that women of all ages are able to stay active and play a team sport in a competitive but fun atmosphere. Our motto at RCNL is "so much more than netball".

– MELANIE O'BERG –

It was founded by Tina Sayers who recognised a dearth of netball in the county with players travelling to Stamford and Corby to participate. The league currently provides sport for over 100 players with 10 teams competing.

The league is run by volunteers - a fantastic bunch of ladies who give up their time to ensure the set up runs smoothly.

Netball league member Melanie O’Berg revealed: “We have a strong committee who are passionate that women of all ages are able to stay active and play a team sport in a competitive but fun atmosphere. Our motto at RCNL is "so much more than netball" Many of our teams are friends socially which is great for anyone new to our area wishing to make new friends.”

'Friendly, supportive environment'

She continued: “We are constantly looking to grow our league with new teams and new players so, if you have a team that would like to join, please get in touch, and, if you are a player looking to join a new team, please contact us as we are currently putting teams together for our Summer 2015 league.

“Anyone would benefit from joining. We have ladies who hadn't played netball for 20 plus years who are now playing regular netball and have made a new circle of friends because of their involvement."

Rutland County Netball LeagueRCNL is based at Catmose College, Oakham, they offer a friendly, supportive environment.

League games are held between 7pm and 9pm on Thursday evenings. Netball sessions are held between 8pm-9pm on Mondays.

'Get fit and have fun'

These sessions are open to ladies who are looking to make new friends, get fit and have fun - regardless of age, shape, size, fitness levels or sporting ability. Whether you'd like to join our Back to Netball sessions, or to join or enter a team, get in touch!

Melanie went on: “We are affiliated to England Netball which insures every player for any injuries and also you become a member of England Netball with regular magazines. Affiliation costs approx £28 for under 18yrs and £35 for adults per year.  Each team pays an entry fee per summer/winter term and match fees may apply which varies with each team, usually £2 weekly.

“We have a fabulous new events secretary in Mel Asher, assisted by Dionne Roundhill. They will be organising events throughout the year and we also have our annual presentation evening at the Falcon Hotel, Uppingham, in April.”

Look out for these events on SRSN, the club’s website, facebook page and twitter.
