Some ‘Panthers’ celebrating the final race of the 2014 season at Roade.

 Triathlon club bursting with life

Ketton Panthers Tri Club is a junior triathlon club bursting with life. It has expanded to 80 members and continues to go from strength to strength.

Originally set up in 2013 by Caroline and Justin Hattee the club took participants to compete in nine events throughout the East Midlands last year. The club also achieved a top 10 position in the prestigious East Midlands Series and hosted a surprise visit from Olympian and Commonwealth gold medalist, Vicky Holland

Thanks to help from its coaching volunteers and increased access to the grounds at Ketton Sports and Social Club the ‘Panthers’ have been able to expand and successfully trial ‘Mini Panthers’ (4-7 year olds) sessions in 2014.

Caroline explains: “The club’s aim is to provide children from 4 – 16 with friendly, fun training sessions to improve running, cycling and swimming skills as well as general fitness. We want the children to participate in the sport of triathlon in a fun and social environment so they can form friendship groups outside of their schools with sport as a shared interest.

"Although we cater for all abilities and some children prefer not to compete, the end goal is the challenge of competing in local triathlons including the ‘East Midlands Series’.”

Club swim sessions are scheduled at Stamford School pool on Wednesday evenings and continue year round. Whilst the Panthers new season starts in Spring 2015, when run / bike training sessions are held on Friday evenings at Ketton Sports & Social Club, Pit Lane, Ketton.

The friendly, fun sessions to aim to improve children’s running, cycling and swimming skills as well as their general fitness but the end goal is the challenge of competing as a ‘Panther’ in events around the East Midlands.

If you’re interested in joining the ‘Panthers’, the club is looking for new recruits, boys and girls, aged between 8 and 16 as at 31 Dec 2015. Please check the clubs website http://ketton-panthers.weebly.com/ for further details and contact caroline.hattee@btinternet.com if you are interested.
