Rutland Rockets Netball Club has been providing high quality coaching and development since its inception in 2011.

Rutland Rockets Team The club was officially set up in September, 2011, by Samantha Griffin and Deborah Kennard-Kettle after the duo realised how many talented girls in the area had nowhere to play. Since then the club has grown into one of the biggest junior netball clubs in the East Midlands with 151 members from ages 7 to 50 plus.

Co founder of the club Samantha, explaining the club benefits, said: “The club offers high quality training with experienced coaches and development opportunity through match play.

“We regularly bring in strength and condition coaches to work with the players to help them learn about health and fitness as well as offering experiences with professional players. Most recently the girls enjoyed a session with Loughborough Lightning player Olivia Mason."

She continued: “We are a competitive club always looking to improve and reach the next target. All the girls enjoy the sport but also like to work hard in order to improve. Everyone is extremely friendly and supportive of one another.

“As well as the competitive development side we do offer the fun session 8-9pm for all in which anyone can attend and enjoy the sport whilst making friends and increasing their fitness levels. The club tries to offer as many match experiences as possible.”

Club training is held on a Monday evening at Catmose Sports Centre Oakham. Training 4-5pm is for High 5 netball ages 7-11, 5-7pm is training for 12-14 year olds, 7-8pm is for 15-18 years old and 8-9pm is for 18+ and is a fun session for anyone wanting to come and have ago and meet new people. Training works out at £3.50 a session, players pay for a term at a time.

Six teams play on a Tuesday night in the Leicester Adult Netball League at Soar Valley Community College as well as five teams who play on a Thursday night in the Leicester Junior Netball League, also held at Soar Valley Community College.

The U14 and U16 teams play in the East Midlands Regional League and High 5 and U12 team that play in Saturday Leicester Clubs League.

As well as league competition, the club enter other tournaments including competitions that lead to national finals. Last year, the U14s played a weekend in Newcastle against the top 19 teams in the country.

Rockets have also taken teams on tours, most recently our first team to Malta where they played against the Maltese national team and came away winners. This year they also hosted an Australian netball club which was great fun, the girls got to play against them then take a player home to host for the night.
